About Resp

On November 24th, 2009, the Ministers of Health present at the South American Health Council Meeting approved, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, through Resolution 07/09, the creation of Structural Networks for health systems within the UNASUR - Health. Two years later, and through Resolution 6/2011, the same Council created the South American Network of Public Health Schools (RESP/UNASUR), aimed at contributing to the improvement of training and education capacity in Public Health in the South American Region and, consequently, allowing a permanent development of regional Health Human Resources (HHR).

RESP/UNASUR is a network of Public Health Schools, Training Centers and Governmental instances of the UNASUR member countries, which facilitates advanced collaboration between institutions to: improve educational capacities at different levels of government and academia, focusing on the training and permanent education of HHR in UNASUR countries; strengthen training and qualification of Public Health professionals in these countries through the exchange of experiences and the development of international technical cooperation; expand and enhance teaching, research and technological development in Public Health, contributing to the improvement of national health systems and their relevance to the needs of their populations and regional integration.

The main objective of RESP/UNASUR is to promote technical cooperation and the exchange of experiences between Public Health Schools, Training Centers and Governmental instances of the UNASUR member countries, in order to strengthen local and regional capacity building in Public Health and the continuing education process of Health Human Resources, contributing, consequently, to the improvement of programs, policies and health systems in the South American region.

RESP/UNASUR counts with representatives of each of the UNASUR member countries. The Executive Secretariat of RESP/UNASUR is in charge of Sergio Arouca National School of Public Health (ENSP/FIOCRUZ), Brazilian Ministry of Health.
